Poland spring is the official bottled water of the 2014 new York City Marathon and I am working with them to cheers all this year’s runners! I have partnered with the company to share some of my tips for keeping hydration a priority before the big race!

Hydration tips for Running The new York City Marathon:

1. Go into the race weekend well hydrated. I think a common mistake is for runners to drink a lot on race morning/race day – but you can help your body by showing up to the start line well rested and well hydrated.

Keep your usual hydration habits even if you are traveling and sightseeing over the weekend!

2.  Pay attention to the color of your pee. aim for a lemonade-y color. You don’t want that to go to dark or too light!

3. walk through aid stations. If you haven’t mastered the ‘grab-and-go’ method of running through the water stations – slow down, grab a cup, walk and drink it.

Getting de-hydrated may hurt your time as much as walking through a few aid stations!

This indicates my last long run, the long run I really need to do because last weekend I only did 14 miles will be snowed out. I asked some recommendations of fellow MDer and Marathoner, Roni.

She, and others, agreed that the sidewalks may be too slippery for a safe run, so I have two options:

1. Run today … but I can’t do the full 20 today as I don’t have 4 hours to devote to it, didn’t carb load and just ate cereal for breakfast (milk, then a long run=not a good idea)

2. Postpone the run until it’s a little safer on the sidewalks

So, it looks like I will be doing my long run on Monday. hopefully by then the sidewalks will be cleared! I’m absolutely stressed about this ideal now and kicking myself for ranking out on my long run last weekend. I knew this would happen and I must have sucked it up!

Like I said, I just ate a bowl of cereal for breakfast. even though I’m not incredibly full, I know from past experience it’s best to stick with toast and PB for a pre-run meal.

I also had a banana with PB. I finally gotten the crunchy salted PB again and had to dig into the jar!

Okay, I’m still freaking out about messing up my long run schedule considering that the last two weekends I did 8 miles and 14 miles. I don’t feel like I am appropriately trained for a marathon in 22 days! just call me chicken Little, because, “The sky is falling!!!!”

I made some roasted brussel sprouts with onions on the side. I know this is kinda gross, but all I did was spray the onions with cooking spray and salt and roast them. I basically ate half an onion straight up this way. I probably stink, but it is so good!

I thought it was funny that Ben was wearing a beanie inside yesterday- he  just couldn’t get warm! I think the MD cold is too much for this Florida boy and California girl when we are constantly talking about moving.

Plan ahead – Today I woke up and did 4 miles on the treadmill and Ben did some elliptical time. Then, I went back to the apartment to make Ben’s lunch since his was running late. I decided I should make my lunch too since when I work from home I am snacking in the kitchen a lot. So I put together most of my lunch and planned out my snacks for the day. Hopefully, this will keep me from grabbing random handfuls of cereal and crackers!

Breakfast was a struggle for some reason. I am convinced oatmeal is the “healthiest” breakfast around. But, it’s not my favorite. Don’t get me wrong, I like it okay, but I love other breakfast choices like cereal, bagels and pancakes more! I ended up going with oatmeal though. I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

I am such a procrastinator I have a list of nine things I have to get done today! See you later ?

Celestial Seasonings hooked me up with a ton of tea after my go to to their plant in Boulder. As it’s slowly getting chilly cooler right here in SoCal I’m craving much more comfort foods.

And I just seem to snack much more in the autumn / winter season – not sure if it’s the food is much better or I’m just inside more! anybody else feel me on this?

Night time snacking has always been my nemesis so I try to fill up ma tummy with warm tea. however there is so much much more temptation around the holidays…

Tips to prevent holiday Weight Gain

1. Don’t show as much as a celebration hungry. Make sure to have a snack before you show up so you’re not starving as well as assault the buffet.

2. Make yourself a plate – don’t just stand at the food table snacking away the night. get a plate as well as location the things you should have on that plate, then walk away from the food. truly delight in what you served yourself.
